In order to start the process of forming a parliamentary committee to choose the next Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has made the decision to write to legislative leaders.

Eight members from the National Assembly and four from the Senate will make up the committee, according to media reports. The Senate members will be nominated by the Senate Chairman.

According to sources, the Ministry of Law would be asked to provide a panel of three senior judges to the parliamentary committee. Within three days, the committee will choose the following CJP from this panel.

The change occurred after President Asif Ali Zardari signed the 26th constitutional amendment bill into law on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recommendation.
