NA passes State-Owned Enterprises (Amendment) Bill, 2024

Despite strong opposition, the State-Owned Enterprises (Governance and Operations) (Amendment) Bill, 2024 was passed by the National Assembly on Wednesday, following the Senate. The bill aims to tighten the procedures for the removal of directors under the Act.

On behalf of the Minister for Finance and Revenue, Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar led the House introduction of the bill to amend the Senate-passed State-Owned Enterprises (Governance and Operations) Act, 2023 [The State-Owned Enterprises (Governance and Operations) (Amendment) Bill, 2024].

The State-Owned Enterprises (Governance and Operations) (Amendment) Bill, 2024 in the House was previously introduced by Syed Naveed Qamar, Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue, as the committee’s recommendation to alter the State-Owned Enterprises (Governance and Operations) Act, 2023.
