Minister welcomes zero-duty status for seafood industry

Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, Minister of Maritime Affairs, praised on Thursday the government’s tax relief measures included in the federal budget for the fiscal year 2024–2025. One such policy is the seafood industry’s zero-rated status, which would safeguard and encourage the sector in order to increase exports.

Speaking to the media, he expressed his satisfaction with the government’s recent decision to focus on the fisheries industry and seafood exports in particular as a significant growth area.

He stated that “We will make our products according to world-class standards” and that “all seafood processing machinery would be exempt from any import duties so that value-addition plants would be imported.”
