Federal Minister for Industry and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain ordered fertiliser companies to immediately reverse the recent hike in urea prices on Tuesday in an effort to safeguard farmers’ interests.
In order to discuss the unexpected price increase, he stated this while presiding over an urgent meeting with representatives of fertiliser firms, including Fauji Fertiliser Company, Engro Fertiliser Private Limited, and Fatima Fertiliser Company.
According to a press release released here, Secretary of Industry and Production Wasim Ajmal Chaudhry was also present at the meeting. Citing no rise in production costs, the minister dismissed the fertiliser businesses’ rationale for raising prices.
He underlined that safeguarding farmers’ interests and guaranteeing a steady supply of urea for the approaching Kharif season are the government’s main priorities.
