According to the Islamabad police, Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir, a human rights attorney, and her husband, Hadi Ali, were taken into custody on Monday.
“Islamabad police have taken legal action and detained Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali for interfering with state duties during the visit of an international cricket team, thereby creating a security risk,” the police said on X.
Shireen Mazari, a former human rights minister and Imaan’s mother, reported that her daughter was taken into custody this morning.
“This morning, Imaan Mazari was taken into custody. In an X post, Shireen stated, “State fascism is in full swing.”
In reference to a supposedly circulated video on X, she said that the Islamabad police had “swung a steel barrier deliberately into her, assaulting her” on Friday.
