ISLAMABAD: The federal government has appointed Lieutenant General (retd) Nazir Ahmad as the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) chairman for a three-year term.
The appointment was made by the federal government, according to a notification from the Ministry of Law and Justice, following consensus between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Raja Riaz. According to the notification, the position of NAB chairman became vacant on February 15 after Aftab Sultan’s resignation was accepted. Lt Gen (retd) Ahmad was chosen for the position after “detailed deliberations” between the two sides. The law ministry states that the NAB chairman will serve a “non-extendable term of three years” and is ineligible for re-appointment.
It is also not possible to remove the chairman from office except on the grounds and in the manner as provided in Article 209 of the Constitution, the notification added.
