Launching a salvo against the Supreme Court’s decision to grant the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) reserved seats in the legislature, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz declared on Friday that the judges of the highest court ought to allow the nation to advance.
Maryam remarked during a Lahore event, “I would like to ask the SC judges to let the country function.”
She said that judges on the Supreme Court had rewritten the Constitution in order to reinstate one individual in the political mainstream. “Who are those people who want to rewrite the Constitution and stop the country from moving forward?” she asked.
The chief minister of Punjab said that the PTI received relief from the Supreme Court that it had not even asked for.
Despite having already filed papers pledging allegiance to another party, the SC judges granted them a 15-day deadline to submit their affidavits asserting their membership with the PTI, she claimed.
We’re not going to make this easy for you. This government’s five-year term will come to an end. “Those who attempt to instigate political unrest will face severe consequences,” issued a warning from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader.
Maryam stated, “It was said that verdicts were announced according to their conscience,” emphasising that the constitution should govern choices rather than an individual’s conscience.
