JUI-S chief Maulana Samiul Haq assassinated in Rawalpindi

Prominent scholar and former senator Maulana Samiul Haq was assassinated in a targeted attack in Rawalpindi on Friday.

Haq’s son Maulana Hamidul Haq confirmed his death in the attack, saying his father was stabbed to death at his house by unidentified assailants who fled the scene.

The attack has also been confirmed by the religious scholar’s aide Maulana Ahmed Shah, media reports suggested.

Earlier, there were reports that unknown motorcyclists opened indiscriminate fire on the vehicle of the JUI-S chief. The JUI-S chief was injured and was being taken to the hospital when he succumbed to his wounds on the way. The intense gunfire also reportedly injured Haq’s driver and guard.
