A day after the government gave in to their demands and pledged necessary relief, the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) declared on Tuesday that it would be ending the ongoing protests in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) against skyrocketing inflation, exorbitant taxes, and electricity bills.
A JAAC official stated in a statement, “The government accepted all the demands of the protesters yesterday,” alluding to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s declaration of a Rs23 billion subsidy package for the people of AJK.
He continued, “The shutterdown strike is being called off,” alluding to the government’s declaration that wheat prices would be lowered by Rs1,100/40 kg and that energy would be provided at cost of production.
He did, however, emphasise that today until 3 p.m., there will be a state-wide shutter down.
