The Islamabad High Court (IHC) cleared Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif in the Avenfield Apartments reference case on Wednesday, providing significant relief for the former prime minister. In the Flagship reference, the PML-N supreme leader’s acquittal was likewise retracted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Nawaz sought to have his conviction in the graft case overturned. Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb made up the IHC division bench that rendered the decision. In the Avenfield case, PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz and her husband Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar were recently cleared by the high court, overturning the accountability court’s 2018 conviction of them.
