The health ministry announced on Tuesday that 15 instances of the JN.1 strain of Covid-19 had been confirmed by the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) of the National Institute of Health (NIH). As stated by acting Health Minister Dr. Nadeem Jan, the situation was “being monitored strictly, with border health services, national and provincial health authorities, and labs fully functional and alert,” according to Sajid Shah, the spokesperson for the health ministry. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has designated JN.1, a sub-lineage of the Omicron variant, as a variant of interest (VOI) due to its higher transmissibility compared to other circulating variants. It is now present in more than 40 nations. Dr. Jan was further reported by the spokeswoman as saying that all international airport entry and exit points had a “effective screening system” in place.
