Hamas leader tortured and starved to death in Israeli custody

As Israeli attacks against unarmed Palestinians in Gaza persisted unabatedly, Palestinian officials and the organisation reported on Friday that a Hamas leader had passed away while in Israeli custody in the West Bank.

The Palestinian Authority’s prisoners affairs office and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club monitor released a joint statement stating that Mustafa Muhammad Abu Ara, 63, passed away after being transferred from a jail in southern Israel to a hospital.

“We mourn the passing of the leader and prisoner Sheikh Mustafa Muhammad Abu Ara and hold the occupation responsible for his assassination through deliberate medical neglect,” Hamas stated in a statement.

Abu Ara was detained in October despite having serious health issues, according to the Palestinian authority and the watchdog.

They further stated that he endured malnutrition and mistreatment while in custody.
