The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa govt arranged a Grand Jirga, which brought together high-ranking officials, among them Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The meeting gave Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur the authority to negotiate with opposition groups in order to enhance the province’s law and order situation.
As the banned Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) declared a three-day Pashtoon Qaumi Jirga, CM Gandapur hosted the high-level meeting at CM House on Thursday to examine the political and security situation in the province and come to a common plan of action.
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, Federal Minister Amir Muqam, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, members of the provincial legislature, and leaders and representatives of all political parties attended the crucial meeting.
In an announcement made during the meeting, the chief minister of KP, CM Gandapur, stated that he will lead a newly formed jirga that will have discussions with opposing parties in an attempt to find a peaceful solution to the region’s political and security problems.
It went on to say that the chief minister expressed gratitude to the Grand Jirga members for giving him the authority to have talks. It further stated that the discussions and process of developing the next plan of action for a peaceful settlement of KP issues would be finished as soon as possible.
The terms of reference (ToRs) of the new jirga led by Chief Minister Gandapur were finalised by the participants in the high-level meeting, according to sources with knowledge of the development who spoke with Geo News. The composition of the negotiation body has not yet been determined.
