The current government is taking proactive steps to privatise profitable electricity distribution businesses (Discos), according to electricity Minister Sardar Awais Khan Leghari, who stated on Friday that this will cut down on circular debt and recurrent losses to the national exchequer.
Speaking with the media, he clarified that the electricity industry in Pakistan is dealing with a number of issues brought on by the misguided policies of previous administrations and added that from January, all customers’ power rates will decrease.
The Federal Minister went on to say that the management of Power Distribution Companies (Discos) will maintain the highest standards of thoroughness in maintaining the accuracy of all financial records and in painstakingly gathering all relevant information on the company’s assets.
