Govt prepares massive energy reforms: Ali Pervaiz

To ensure a sustainable and effective energy sector going forward, a significant package of reforms pertaining to the energy industry is on the horizon, according to Minister of State for Finance, Revenue, and Power Ali Pervaiz Malik on Tuesday.

He described in an interview the multifaceted strategy the administration is using to restructure the energy industry.

According to him, lowering off-grade utilisation and controlling capacity charges are necessary to lower capacity expenses per unit. In order to reduce reliance on imported fuels, he emphasised the significance of switching to domestic fuel sources and highlighted current initiatives in local exploration. The privatisation of generation companies (GENCOs) and distribution businesses (DISCOs) is a major component of the reform plan.
