In congratulating the country on the peaceful and orderly conduct of the general elections, Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, and Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Solangi said on Friday that the caretaker government had kept its solemn promise to hold elections within the timeframe provided by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). Speaking at a press conference, he declared, “We have consistently stood by our stand regarding the conduct of elections” in the face of rumours and several difficulties. In response to a query, he stated that the Internet was not shut down on election day, that fixed broadband was operational, and that users were making full use of social media sites. He made the point that Pakistan was not the first country to choose to suspend Internet access for security-related concerns. Many other nations have made this decision.
