Dr. Richard Franka, a representative of the Global Immunisation Division of the US Centres for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, led a delegation that paid a visit to Dr. Nadeem Jan, the Minister of Health. They talked about areas of common interest for collaboration in the health sector during their encounter. The government’s determination to entirely eradicate polio from Pakistan was underlined by Minister Nadeem Jan. Ms. Suzzane Powel from the US Embassy and Dr. Jude Tuma, the acting country director of the CDC in Pakistan, were also part of the delegation. The federal secretary of health, Iftikhar Shalwani, and the strategic adviser for the IGH-CDC, Dr. Rana Muhammad Safdar, joined the minister. Dr. Nadeem expressed gratitude to the US CDC for their cooperation and support in the areas of vaccination, the elimination of polio, workforce development for public health, and the improvement of public health laboratories in Pakistan.
