From lending to borrowing

More than five decades ago, the Ayub Khan led government dished out one hundred and twenty million rupees to Bavarian economy. For a period of two decades, the Pakistani government lent the said amount to a country which is now Europe’s biggest economy. German being the technology connoisseurs, with their intervention into science have become the most modern nation and are known to be more scientific than minimalist Japanese.

When it comes to automobile, there are cars that Japan can’t even think of producing or at least the market for German machines couldn’t be taken over by the Japanese counterparts. Government of Germany was wise, or if we put it more aptly, was honest enough to utilize the same amount in the best of national interest. German officials ventured into projects of long-term impact and finally, they have reached a point where there is no competition ‘apparently’, the prosperity became inevitable ultimately.

But what happened in between here in Pakistan, what went wrong or what were those circumstances which became the reason of cessation of progress in Pakistan. From a situation where we could lend money to others, to a situation in which we are begging for alms from others – what infiltrated the system, the adulteration of local economy due to vested interest of those who have been in power was contagious, every changing government, people’s representative had different faces but they carried the virus which diseased the system. Now, we are at the verge of collapse, any wrong step and the economy withers away in no time.

Prime Minister Imran Khan needs to have a proper check of his team, before it gets infected. The rumors about the wrongdoings of ministers and incompetence of the team would actually pose the same threat to economy due to which we have become borrower from lender. If not checked today, government will have even more tough time to pass the constitutional tenure allotted to them.
