First digital census to ensure transparent data: PM Shehbaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD: The country’s first digital census, scheduled for 2023, will guarantee an open data collection process, according to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday.

This, he claimed, would contribute to well-informed decision-making, future planning, and effective resource use. This was stated by the prime minister in a tweet about the beginning of the 23rd Digital Census. He expressed his gratitude to all the organizations involved for creating the system locally. The government is attempting to lighten people’s financial burdens, according to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, by providing affordable, environmentally friendly electricity. On Wednesday, he presided over a meeting in Islamabad to review progress made with regard to the solarization of national government buildings.

The Prime Minister said we will not tolerate any obstacle in implementation of measures to reduce dependence on imported fuel.

He directed to install solar systems in government buildings in Islamabad within the next 7 weeks.

He further directed the authorities concerned to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe.

The Prime Minister said that work on solarization of federal government buildings in other areas of the country should also be started immediately.

The meeting was informed that 496 government buildings in Islamabad, 340 in big cities of the country including Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Quetta and 1255 government buildings in other areas will be replaced with solar energy.

The meeting was informed that the installation of solar panels in government buildings in Islamabad will be done on emergency basis.

Moreover, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday directed to set up counters of passport issuing officers at the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) centres to facilitate the applicants.

 

The prime minister in this regard asked NADRA and the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports to share their resources to materialize the collaboration.

 

Chairing a meeting on hassle-free access to passports and computerized national identity cards (CNICs), he said the step would not only facilitate the general public but also reduce the burden on national exchequer.

 

Shehbaz Sharif directed that all the previously approved new passport offices would be set up as counters at the NADRA centres.

 

He also instructed to increase the number of mobile vans of NADRA to provide doorstep service to CNIC applicants.

 

For the renewal of CNICs, the meeting was informed that NADRA was set to launch a new mobile phone application for consumers.

 

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Education Minister Rana Tanvir Hussain, Chairman NADRA, the Director General Immigration and Passports and senior officials attented the meeting.
