Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired the Federal Cabinet meeting, which took place in Islamabad today [Monday].

On the suggestion of the Ministry of Commerce, the federal cabinet authorised the filing of a review appeal against the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s ruling to relax the import prohibition on monosodium glutamate (Ajino Motu).

This decision is based on the findings of a special committee of experts that was established to investigate the health implications of monosodium glutamate at the Prime Minister’s Office’s request.

According to the committee’s conclusion, monosodium glutamate is safe for human consumption. Representatives from the Federal Ministry of National Food Security and Research, the Institute of Food and Nutritional Sciences, the National Agriculture Research Centre, the National University of Sciences and Technology, Pakistan Scientific and Industrial Research, the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority, and the Board of Investment were on the committee.
