FCDO delegation lauds Pakistan’s structural reforms program

Melinda Bohannaon, the DG for Humanitarian and Development at the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, met with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb in Islamabad.

The minister gave the delegation an update on the government’s program for structural changes and stabilisation. He listed several important projects, such as the federal government’s rightsizing, the privatisation program, pension changes, and state-owned firm reforms. He emphasised that tax receipts for the first quarter of FY 25 rose by 25.6%.

Muhammad Aurangzeb also provided information regarding the World Bank’s forthcoming ten-year Country Partnership Framework. Pakistan will be the first nation to join such a framework, he continued. He underlined the government’s commitment to sustainable development by stating that the framework will address existential issues including child stunting, population increase, and climate change.
