Multan. MNS University of Agriculture Multan and Fatima Fertilizer organized a farmers’ convention on the subject of hybrid wheat. Apart from farmers, personalities from different walks of life and scientists participated in the convention.
Speaking at the convention, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Asif Ali (T.I.) highlighted the role of hybrid wheat in increasing wheat production. He said that hybrids are very popular and successful in maize, which is overall increasing the maize yield per unit area. By adopting hybrid wheat, we can meet the challenges of food security in Pakistan. Today we are happy to sign an agreement with Fatima Group, which will help in the mass production of hybrid wheat. He said that the University is always involved the industry in agricultural research and promotion.
Australian scientist, Dr. Richard Trethon said that hybrid wheat is being seen as an important innovation not only in Australia but globally. He said that wheat diseases can be significantly reduced with hybrid varieties. The Australian scientist congratulated the scientists of the University of Agriculture Multan and Fatima Fertilizer for achieving the milestone of hybrid wheat production at mass scale. He said that bringing hybrid wheat to farmers is an important step that needs to be worked on.
Professor Dr. Muhammad Ashfaq gave a lecture on strategies for controlling wheat rust. He said that farmers can increase wheat production by reducing wheat rust and ybrid wheat is very useful in this regard.
Mr. Naseerullah Khan from Fatima Group explained the future of hybrid wheat and its importance in food security. Along with this, he also said that they have been working on hybrid wheat with the MNS University of Agriculture Multan for two years. More than just meeting Pakistan’s requirement, the hybrid wheat will enable the country to export wheat.
Progressive farmer Mr. Syed Fakhr Imam praised Agriculture University Multan and Fatima Fertilizer for organizing Bread Wheat Sur Syed Kisan Convention. Mr. Khalid Khokhar highlighted the challenges faced by farmers in wheat production. He said that wheat production is being affected due to the increase in fertilizer prices.
CEO PARB Dr. Abid Mehmood said that hybrid wheat is an important milestone in agriculture. Informing the farmers about the importance of hybrid wheat is now a future goal. The farmers involved in the event appreciated the services of the university and expressed motivation to plant hybrid wheat in the future.
On this occasion, progressive farmers Anila Rabbani Khar, Syed Hasan Ahmed, Rabeel Saduzai, Imran Hameed, Junaid Khan, Isfandiar, Professor Dr. Irfan A.
