ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday decided to hear the foreign funding case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after a seven-year delay.
This decision was taken by the Election Commission of Pakistan after reviewing the report of the scrutiny committee. The country’s Supreme Electoral Body will hear the case tomorrow and in this context, notices have been issued to the respondents to ensure their presence before it.
Sources familiar with the development said that the report of the ECP scrutiny committee would be presented to the defendants in this case. It should be noted that the case of foreign funding of PTI was pending in ECP for last 7 years.
Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, while talking to reporters, confirmed that the report of the scrutiny committee has been received.
“The sealed report sent by the scrutiny committee is on my desk, however, I have not read it yet.”
The CEC had said that after de-sealing the report of the scrutiny committee, the officials of the Election Commission of Pakistan would review it in the next meeting so that the future strategy could be decided.
