Digitisation of taxation system, Govt priority to prevent evasion: PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered the relevant authorities to promptly establish a dashboard to track the ongoing digitalization and implementation of the reforms on Friday, describing the digitisation of the taxation system as the government’s priority to avoid tax evasion worth billions of rupees.

During a meeting to review the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) reform process, the prime minister gave the order to remove the customs appraisers’ discretionary powers and bring the taxable non-filers under the tax net. He also requested a report on the implementation from the FBR chairman within a day.

In the course of the FBR digitisation briefing, the attendees were apprised that 4.5 million taxable individuals who were not included in the tax net have been identified.
