Deputy Commissioner Bahawalnagar Salman Khan reviews arrangements for wheat procurement drive

Bahawalnagar:  In five tehsils of Bahawalnagar district, Chishtian, Bahawalnagar, Minchinabad, Haroonabad and Fort Abbas, the Food Department of Punjab has set a target of 3 lakh 38 thousand 500 metric tons of wheat purchase.  22 centers have been set up across the district for purchasing wheat. This was stated by Deputy Commissioner Bahawalnagar Salman Khan Lodhi in the committee room of the DC office in relation to the purchase of wheat.  It was informed in the meeting that the food department is authorized to purchase wheat in three tehsils of Chishtian, Haroonabad and Fort Abbas, while the federal department is authorized to purchase Pasco wheat in Bahawalnagar and Minchinabad.  In the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner made a detailed review of the arrangements and preparations made with reference to the purchase of wheat throughout the district.  17 thousand metric tons while Fort Abbas has a target of 1 lakh 34 thousand.  22 wheat procurement centers have been established across the district in which 12 procurement centers and 10 flag centers have been established.  4 procurement and 5 flag centers have been set up in Chishtian, 4 procurement and 3 flag centers in Haroonabad while 4 procurement and 2 flag centers have been established in Fort Abbas.  The meeting was told that staff has been appointed at 22 wheat procurement centers and all facilities will be provided to farmers at the centers. Deputy Commissioner Salman Khan Lodhi said in the meeting that farmers are the backbone of the country’s economy and farmers protecting the interests of farmers is the top priority and will not allow anyone to exploit the farmers.  The meeting also reviewed the supply and sale of urea fertilizer across the district. The Deputy Commissioner directed that strict crackdown should be continued against hoarding of fertilizer and illegal profiteering and there should be no delay in supplying urea fertilizer at fixed rates.
