Police, FIA and other Law enforcement agencies on Monday have launched a crackdown against miscreants for vandalizing law and order situation across the country during protest against acquittal of Asia Bibi by Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC).
According to security personnel, more than 200 suspects have been detained from Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Karachi, Sheikhupura and Peshawar so far. Police official said that raids are being conducted countrywide to nab the rioters.
An action is also underway in Lahore where eight miscreants have been remanded in police custody for 14 days.
On the other hand, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has also initiated process of accumulating evidence against all those involved in pillage and wanton violence during sit-ins of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).
Interior ministry has dispatched a draft to FIA in this regard.
Sources privy to FIA told our correspondent that during this crackdown, officials will identify the culprits involved in vandalism through videos and pictures available on social media whereas data through other sources would also be garnered.
FIA has also urged masses to lodge complains and share evidence with authorities concerned.
Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi has summoned a report today from the FIA, National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) regarding the identities of the rioters and launch a crackdown against them.
Earlier, during a meeting chaired by the state minister it was decided that assistance will be sought from the Ministry of Defence to identify the rioters.
Meanwhile, criminal proceedings are under way against rioters and police has been registering cases and arresting those involved in damaging property and harassing citizens. In Islamabad, 500 people have been booked and 12 have been arrested.
Further, orders have been issued to imprison 19 rioters under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO). According to Islamabad administration, 33 rioters have been identified.
