On Thursday, an Islamabad district and sessions court denied the request of former prime minister Imran Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi to have their seven-year sentences in the Iddat case suspended.
The verdict was reserved on Tuesday, and it was announced today by Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Afzal Majoka.
Days before the general elections, on February 3, an Islamabad court found the pair guilty on the grounds that they were married within the former first lady’s Iddat period, according to a complaint submitted by Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband, Khawar Fareed Maneka.
Qudratullah, a senior civil judge, condemned the couple to seven years in prison and fined them each Rs 500,000.
The couple received 14-year sentences in the Toshakhana case, and the verdict was rendered the same week.
