Khawaja Asif, Pakistan’s defence minister, said on Thursday that corruption is a widespread problem in his nation and that it is now a significant barrier to development.
Khawaja Asif delivered a harsh speech to business leaders at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry, claiming that even a 50% decrease in corruption would mean Pakistan would no longer require aid from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“Corruption has become so entrenched that customs collectors boldly accept bribes of 400 to 500 million rupees,” the defence minister said.
Concern was also raised by Khawja Asif on the blurring of the lines between haram and halal. According to Khawaja Asif, corruption is consuming our nation like termites.
