Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, the Senate’s chairman, emphasised the need for group action to protect the environment on Tuesday.
The Chairman emphasised the value of proactive steps in climate adaptation and mitigation for national resilience in his speech on World Environment Day 2024.
In addition to leading the charge in hosting this year’s festivities, Gilani expressed his appreciation and praise for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their initiatives to promote land restoration, fight desertification, and strengthen drought resilience.
Through programmes like the Living Indus Initiative, Recharge Pakistan, and the Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) risk reduction initiatives, which aim to restore the ecological health of the Indus River basin—crucial to our population and economy—Gilani reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to addressing environmental challenges.
