CM Maryam stresses wetlands’ role in climate protection

Wetlands are crucial in the fight against climate change, and their preservation is vital to the sustainability of the ecosystem, according to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
“Wetlands are the lungs of our planet and serve as habitats for aquatic and wildlife species,” the CM stated in her message on World Wetlands Day.
According to the CM, wetlands are essential for ecological balance because they absorb carbon, regulate floods, and assist maintain groundwater levels. “The Punjab government has created a comprehensive climate change policy for the first time in Pakistan’s history, giving conservation and restoration of wetlands and other natural ecosystems first priority. Watchtowers and checkpoints are being set up for surveillance purposes in order to protect these natural riches,” she continued.
