In a report on food insecurity in the Gaza Strip, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) notes that households in northern Gaza are “experiencing alarming levels of hunger.” Nine out of ten Palestinians in northern Gaza go without food for a full day or night, and at least 97% of homes have “inadequate food consumption.” Thirty percent of the households in the southern governorates reported high levels of severe or very severe hunger, while fifty-three percent reported moderate hunger. 1,249 trucks delivering food supplies have arrived in Gaza since October 7. Approximately 500 trucks every day would enter the Gaza Strip prior to the war. According to WFP, 100 food-laden trucks would need to pass through Gaza in order to deliver food aid to the impacted people.
The general elections, which are set for February 8, 2024, should not raise any concerns for the nation, said Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar. “I’m positive about it… These issues are frequently linked to our political structure. We have a history of our own,” he said in a Wednesday interview with Independent Urdu. The prime minister expressed optimism for a free and fair electoral process. He noted that because so many people had differing views about such surveys, he did not use the general elections of the 1970s as a benchmark either. “They were pretty transparent, of course. I think it’s a problem since, at that time, it was already decided before elections which direction they would follow. He expressed hope that the caretaker government would be able to deliver outcomes in a somewhat better manner now that the procedures were in place. The prime minister declared that he agreed with the Election Commission when it denied that there was a poll delay. “The elections must be conducted by them (the Election Commission).” We’re on their side. According to the Election Commission, he added, the election timetable would take place across 56 days, and by December 14th, the schedule should be made public. When questioned about the idea that Imran Khan’s loss of support ...
Pakistan urged Indian government on Wednesday to guarantee minorities’ safety, security, and protection—especially Muslims and their houses of worship. In a statement released on the thirty-first anniversary of the famous Babri Mosque’s demolition, the Foreign Office described the day as a sombre reminder of how a group of Hindu fanatics destroyed the centuries-old mosque in Ayodhya in plain front of Indian law enforcement. The FO statement read, “It is regrettable that India’s superior judiciary not only cleared the perpetrators of this hateful act but also approved the construction of a temple on the site of the demolished Mosque.”
Volker Turk, the head of the UN’s human rights office, issued a warning on Wednesday about the increased possibility of “atrocity crimes” in Gaza and urged all parties engaged to desist from carrying them out. “According to my humanitarian colleagues, the situation is apocalyptic. There is a greater chance of atrocity crimes under these conditions, Turk told reporters in Geneva. “Measures need to be taken urgently, both by the parties concerned and by all states, particularly those with influence, to prevent any such crimes,” he stated. “Some 1.9 million out of the 2.2 million Palestinians have been displaced and are being pushed into ever diminishing and extremely overcrowded places in southern Gaza in unsanitary and unhealthy conditions,” Turk stated.
As Israel wages war on Hamas, senior UN officials have issued dire warnings, calling the situation in Gaza “apocalyptic” and saying there is “no place safe to go” for people, CNN reported. The chief UN official in charge of emergency relief, Martin Griffiths, stated in a statement on Monday that “every time we think things cannot get any more apocalyptic in Gaza, they do.” “People are being forced to make impossible choice after impossible choice, with little to survive on,” he added. “People are being ordered to move again.” He went on, “Such blatant disregard for basic humanity must stop.” Deep worries for the residents who were seeking sanctuary in southern Gaza over the weekend were heightened by reports of hundreds of deaths from the brutal Israeli bombing.
According to Al Jazeera, the Gaza Health Ministry has charged that Israel deliberately targets hospitals in an attempt to close them, sending injured and displaced Palestinians into a “circle of death.” A spokesman for the Health Ministry, Ashraf al-Qudra, claimed that the Israeli occupation was “deliberately bombing hospitals in Gaza to put them out of service,” adding that this was creating a “circle of death” for medical professionals as well as the injured and displaced. Al-Qudra went on to say that Israel had bombarded a number of locations outside of Gaza City where Palestinian refugees were seeking safety, including a packed square, a building next to the Baptist Hospital, and the Salah ud-Din school. Munir al-Barsh, director-general of Gaza’s Health Ministry, told Al Jazeera earlier today that the hospitals that are still open are finding it difficult to handle “an influx of dead bodies.”
Over 700 Palestinians have lost their lives in Gaza in the past 24 hours, according to the director general of the Government Media Office in Gaza, who made this announcement to international media. He continued by saying that the Gaza Strip has seen the displacement of over 1.5 million people. Israel escalates its attacks on Gaza as appeals for a truce are made internationally. According to FRANCE 24’s Luke Shrago in Tel Aviv, Israel unleashed hundreds of strikes against what it called “Hamas infrastructure targets” on Saturday night and Sunday. As they expand their offensive into southern Gaza, Israeli soldiers claim to have struck munitions storage facilities, command centres, and tunnels. As a result, Hamas officials have begun to update their fatality tolls.
Pakistan has asked once more that Afghan authorities move quickly and decisively to suppress terrorist organisations that are based there. Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch expressed concerns over terrorist sanctuaries in Afghanistan during her weekly news briefing today in Islamabad. She claimed that these terrorists are still killing people in Pakistan throughout their attacks. According to the spokeswoman, Pakistan wants cordial and peaceful ties with Afghanistan. We are deeply sorry for our comrades in Afghanistan who have endured immense suffering due to a challenging humanitarian and security situation. According to her, Pakistan has argued on a global scale for the continuation of humanitarian supplies to Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza reports that 109 individuals have died as a result of Israeli attacks since the ceasefire’s expiration. Moreover, hundreds of individuals have suffered injuries. As Israel recommenced its military campaign on Friday, aid was left stalled close to Egypt’s border with Gaza. Truck drivers predicted more delays to the convoluted delivery procedure, which had accelerated during a week-long ceasefire. Since seven in the morning, there has been bombardment. Driver Saleh Ebada, who had already been waiting eight days to approach the bridge for inspection when fighting resumed, stated, “There are planes and artillery and we haven’t moved.” According to Egyptian security sources, fuel and relief vehicles were no longer coming into Egypt.
Mushaal Hussein Mullick, the prime minister’s special assistant for human rights, claimed on Thursday that the Indian military was complicit in the murder of Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir, which is illegally occupied by Indians (IIOJK). Speaking at a conference with the theme “Atrocities in Kashmir and Repression on Minorities in India,” she conveyed her grave worries about the abuses of human rights occurring in the occupied region. She asserted that persecution and negative strategies, such as imprisoning the political leadership, could never defeat the people of the occupied valley. Kashmir Media Service (KMS) and Kashmir International jointly organised the event. Khalil George, the acting federal minister for human rights, expressed regret that India had followed Israel’s lead in Palestine and implemented the same policies in its occupied region.
