Bilawal assails VPN, internet restrictions

Amid his party’s conflicts with the government, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari blasted internet slowdowns and restrictions nationwide on Monday, calling them “another attempt to control and censor citizens.”
Users have encountered slow connections, trouble downloading material on WhatsApp, and sporadic connectivity problems in recent months. According to digital observers, the government has been experimenting with a “firewall” that keeps an eye on specific platforms and has the authority to ban anything, such as images or videos of rallies sent on WhatsApp. A “web management system” is being modified for enhanced cyber security, according to the government.
Senior party officials expressed a “lack of confidence” in the federal government in December, which has caused a tumultuous relationship between the PPP and the government.
