ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has paid tribute to the late Mufti Abdul Shakoor, Minister for Religious Affairs, who passed away in a car accident in the Capital a few days ago. In his remarks to the National Assembly (NA), the Prime Minister (PM) praised the late Mufti as a distinguished religious scholar and a trustworthy and diligent member of his cabinet. “The late Mufti campaigned for office in his district on a motorcycle.” He observed the late minister’s straightforward and perceptive speaking during cabinet meetings. The PM claimed that in contrast to the mismanagement-related problems that had surfaced under the previous administration, no complaints were made during the Hajj arrangements because of his diligence and hard work.
The late minister made excellent arrangements with his hard work and honesty, he further lauded. “Today, not only this house and parliament, but the whole country lost a great scholar, mufti, and thinker,” he added. He said that former member of the cabinet had no other sources of income except his salary. The PM further named the late Mufti ‘a gem’ of the JUI-F.
He mentioned that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had gratuitously granted a loan of $2 billion to Pakistan, and, the country received $1 billion committed by the United Arab Emirates.
He said all the terms of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had been met.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday instructed the country’s mission in the United Arab Emirates to facilitate the families of Pakistanis who died in a fire incident in Dubai.
Sixteen people including three Pakistanis lost their lives after a fire broke out in their apartment in Dubai. The prime minister expressed grief over the deaths and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families over the tragedy.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday visited the residence of Amir Jamiat Ulema e Islam-F Maulana Fazl ur Rehman to offer condolence on the death of Minister for Religious Affairs Mufti Abdul Shakoor.
The prime minister prayed for the high ranks of the departed soul and for the bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude, the PM Office Media Wing said in a press release. Expressing his deep grief, the prime minister said that he along with the entire nation shared their sympathies with the bereaved family. He also paid tribute to the late Mufti for his contributions as a cabinet member.
