AJK govt calls in Rangers as protests continue

Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), on the call of Awami Action Committee (AAC), has called in the Rangers as the protests and demonstrations against high electricity bills and taxes entered the third day.
This comes after violent altercations between demonstrators and police broke out in Mirpur during protests, leaving a policeman dead and over 70 injured.
In the meantime, the AAC’s central leadership has disassociated itself from the violent protest-related incidents.
Sajid Jagwal, an AAC member, claimed that their movement is nonviolent. They have been sitting for two days, he added, and nothing has happened.
Tauseef Mansoor, another member, asserted that the committee was unrelated to the two or three instances.

Yasir Hussain Naqvi, another member of the AAC, said that they are not persuasive of destruction as these are their properties. “These institutions are ours and police is ours,” he added.
