Ahsan Iqbal, the Minister of Planning, emphasised the importance of social media on Tuesday, referring to it as a “crucial instrument” for encouraging public involvement, openness, and engagement in political and governmental processes.
“Citizens’ engagement, transparency and participation in government and political processes have been revolutionised by social media platforms, enabling instant communication, mobilisation, and dissemination of information,” he stated.
Speaking at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) event “Digital Democracy in Action: Enhancing Engagement through Social Media,” the minister stated these opinions.
“The democratisation of communication fosters a more inclusive and participatory political environment,” he said, adding that social media platforms provided forums for discussion, allowing people from all walks of life to voice their opinions, share concerns, and participate in national and political discourse.
