ISLAMABAD: Munir Akram replaced Dr Maleeha Lodhi as Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Foreign Ministry Office
The government did not provide a reason for the replacement of Dr Lodhi. She has not been assigned any other portfolio as of now.
Following the announcement, Maliha Lodhi say on twitter that she is grateful to have had the opportunity to represent the country for over four years.
“Representing Pakistan at the world’s most important multilateral forum was a great privilege,” she wrote, adding that she “had planned to move on after UNGA following a successful visit by the Prime Minister”.
Munir Akram has previously served at the same post from 2002 to 2008. He specializes in multilateral diplomacy with considerable experience over the years at the UN’s New York and Geneva chapters.

Akram, age 74, specializes in multilateral diplomacy and holds a wide experience at the UN chapters in New York and Geneva.
The development comes merely a day after Prime Minister Imran Khan returned from the United States, where he addressed the UN General Assembly’s (UNGA) 74th session — termed successful and historic — and fought Kashmir’s case.
