LAHORE: An accountability court on Saturday sent Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) leader and former railways minister Khawaja Saad Rafique and his brother Salman Rafique to jail on a 14-day judicial remand in the Paragon Housing Society scam case.
The decision was made as the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) presented the duo before the court for another extension to their physical remand. A large police contingent was present outside the court premises to maintain law and order.
Accountability Judge Syed Najmul Hasan, however, rejected the extension request and sent the duo to jail on a 14-day judicial remand.
Previously, the physical remand of the two brothers had been extended till February 2.
Later, speaking to media, Saad Rafique said the NAB had no proof against him or his brother. “Whoever talks about the supremacy of constitution faces the same treatment that we are currently going through,” he said.
The former railways minister claimed that Prime Minister Imran Khan was trying to influence the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament.
Rafique and his brother have so far completed 53-day remand in the case. They are being investigated for alleged corruption in Paragon Housing Society case and accumulating wealth beyond known sources of income.
The two were arrested on December 11 last year after the Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected their bail plea.
