Despite significant concerns and protests from the media community, President Asif Ali Zardari signed into law on Wednesday the controversial Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Peca) (Amendment) Bill 2025, which had been approved by both chambers of parliament.
The National Assembly and Senate passed the bill, and the president signed it into law, according to a press release from the President’s Office.
Additionally, he signed the National Commission on the Status of Women (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Digital Nation Pakistan Bill 2025.
This comes one day after the Senate approved changes to the contentious law, sparking nationwide demonstrations.
