Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has categorically rejected the possibility of any compromise on the nation’s nuclear program in response to the sanctions imposed by the United States (US).
Speaking during a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday, the prime minister declared, “There is no justification for the sanctions imposed on us [….] There will be no compromise on Pakistan’s nuclear program.”
The Premier’s comments follow President Biden’s administration’s announcement last week that it would impose further restrictions on Pakistan’s ballistic missile program, focusing on four organizations it claimed were involved in the delivery or proliferation of such weapons.
The Foreign Office responded strongly to the measure, calling it “biased” and cautioning that it would have detrimental effects on regional and global strategic stability.
