The conviction of 25 civilians in a Pakistani military trial has drawn “deep concern” from the US, which has stated that the military courts lacked safeguards of due process, judicial independence, and openness.
US Department of State Spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a brief statement on Tuesday that Washington is still urging Pakistani authorities to “respect” the country’s constitution’s guarantees of due process and a fair trial.
A significant step occurred last week when 25 people who were part in the attacks on state installations during the violent protests on May 9, 2023, were punished by the military court.
