SC judge expresses annoyance over Pakistani judiciary’s global ranking

Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail of the Supreme Court has voiced his frustration with the exceedingly poor rankings of Pakistan’s judiciary by international organisations.
“I have no idea where these figures come from. He made these remarks at a constitutional bench hearing on petitioners’ lack of access to the highest court: “Some place our judiciary on 120, while others place it on 150.”
Pakistan’s global ranking in the 2024 edition of the World Justice Project’s Rule of Law index is 129th out of 142 countries evaluated, a minor gain over the previous year.
The 26th Constitutional Amendment created the constitutional bench, which Justice Mandokhail is a member of and is chaired by Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan.
