ISLAMABAD: The senior leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was briefed over the party matters and political developments in a high-level session at the Parliament House on Monday.
The meeting was chaired by PML-N leaders Nawaz and Shehbaz Sharif, and attended by the senior leadership of the party from all over the country, including former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Rana Sanaullah, Ayaz Sadiq and Iqbal Zafar Jhagra.
The senior party high command discussed opposition’s share in the standing committees, Khawaja Saad Rafique’s production order and National Accountability Bureau’s actions against the party leaders.
Member National Assembly Ahsan Iqbal briefed and presented his recommendations to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif over the party’s affairs.
Iqbal, the former interior minister, has been given the responsibility to increase party membership.
Meanwhile, the opposition parties have refused to take the chairmanship of relatively unimportant standing committees and have demanded interior, foreign affairs, and finance from the treasury benches.
The government and opposition reached a formula for the chairmanship of the standing committees according to the seat share, under which the treasury benches would get 20 while the opposition will get the chairmanship of 19.
The opposition has reached consensus over not taking the chairmanship of Statistics, Climate Change, Science and Technology.
