Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Khan Afridi has been urged by Supreme Court Justices Mansoor Ali Shah and Munib Akhtar to set hearings for the appeals contesting the 26th Constitutional Amendment as soon as possible.
The two judges, who are members of the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act (2023) committee that sets cases and benches, wrote that the committee has chosen to hear these constitutional petitions in a full court, with the first hearing scheduled for November 4.
Tensions within the judiciary have increased as a result of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi’s refusal to call the desired session.
The conflict started on October 31st when Chief Justice Afridi received a formal letter from Justices Shah and Akhtar.
