In an effort to boost Pakistan’s maritime economy, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Ahmed Shaikh visited the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) on Wednesday. While there, he stressed the importance of a coordinated strategy for growing important maritime industries like aquaculture, green shipping, and tourism.
Minister Shaikh received an update on NIMA’s efforts to advance research and shape marine policies while he was there.
In their analysis of Pakistan’s maritime industry, NIMA officials noted that it now accounts for less than 0.2% of the country’s GDP, which is significantly less than the 8–10% global average.
They contended that this disparity highlighted the necessity of strategic investments and changes.
It was also mentioned that NIMA’s collaborations with regional, national, and global stakeholders were essential to the expansion of Pakistan’s maritime industry.
