Parliamentarians have to ensure rights of their constituents: Speaker

Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq announced Monday that Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) sponsored the 13th Consultative Assembly of Parliamentarians on International Criminal Court and Rule of Law (CAP-ICC) to discuss urgent global issues in light of the mounting humanitarian and climate crises that are endangering human security worldwide.

He was speaking during the National Assembly of Pakistan’s 13th Consultative Assembly of Parliamentarians on International Criminal Court and Rule of Law, which was part of the 45th Annual Forum of Parliamentarians for Global Action.

According to NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, lawmakers have a duty to protect the rights and welfare of their citizens in the face of several obstacles, not just to enact laws.

According to him, every Pakistani lawmaker represents over one million people in their districts, many of whom struggle with severe problems like stunting, lack of access to safe drinking water, and poor sanitation.

He stated that the forum’s primary objective was to devise procedures for PGA members to follow up on their pledges made to their respective national legislatures in order to guarantee coordinated efforts to provide aid to people in need.

He noted that although violence and war were making people’s suffering worse, humanitarian problems were mounting without showing any signs of abating. All wars, however, were only settled on the table.

“It’s our collective responsibility and all members delegates to fully utilise this forum as opportunity to devise effective strategies,” he stated.
