Hamas confirms killing of its leader Yahya Sinwar

Khalil Al-Hayya, deputy Gaza Hamas chief and the group’s chief negotiator, announced on Friday that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, who planned the group’s 2023 cross-border incursions that turned into the worst day in Israel’s history, had been killed in action.
After former political leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Tehran on July 31, Sinwar was appointed the group’s supreme commander on August 6.
Despite Israeli attempts to kill him since the beginning of the conflict, Sinwar has remained in Gaza and is widely recognised as the mastermind of the Oct. 7, 2023 attack, which was the most catastrophic event for Israel in decades.
Five troops were killed in fighting in southern Lebanon, according to the Israeli military, bringing the total number of personnel losses to 19.
