District Duki in Balochistan has seen protests since an attack on nearby coal mines resulted in the deaths of at least 20 miners and the injuries of seven others. This is the province’s most recent violent incident.
An armed man attacked a private coal mine in the Duki district of Balochistan on Friday, killing at least 20 miners and injuring seven more, according to authorities.
The tragedy occurs in the midst of increased national security worries, particularly in Balochistan, the scene of several terror incidents in August that left at least fifty people dead.
According to Duki Station House Officer (SHO) Humayun Khan, “a group of armed men attacked the Junaid Coal company mines in the Duki area in the wee hours using heavy weapons.”
