The Election (Amendment) Act, according to Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, National Heritage, and Culture Attaullah Tarar, changed a norm that prohibited floor crossing as specified by the Constitution into a law, demonstrating the supreme institution status of the Parliament.
Speaking at a press conference today, he stated that the Election Act Amendment Bill was moved in the Senate by Senator Talal Chaudhry, while it was tabled in the National Assembly by Muslim League (Nawaz) member Bilal Azhar Kayani.
According to the minister, the bill was approved by the Senate and National Assembly with a majority of votes, and it subsequently became law.
He then elaborated on the issue, arguing that the floor crossing epidemic and the new piece of legislation were clearly addressed under the Constitution and the law.
