President emphasizes discouraging fake news

On Wednesday, President Asif Ali Zardari emphasised the importance of fostering a culture of fact-checking and information verification in order to prevent the spread of false information and fake news.

According to him, the media should respect the greatest standards of journalism and work to advance moral principles, harmony, and tolerance in society.

According to a press release from the President Secretariat Press Wing, the president discussed these opinions with Muhammad Saleem, the Chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), who visited with him and gave the PEMRA Report 2021–23 at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

Speaking with chairman PEMRA, the president stated that new issues had been brought about by contemporary communication technology and that the media needed to be responsible and helpful in influencing public opinion.
