Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Secretary General Nayyar Hussain Bukhari said on Sunday that his party was prepared for new elections “if Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chooses to dissolve the lower house of parliament,” therefore escalating political unrest in the midst of ongoing legal events.
The federal government’s expressed annoyance has been noticeable lately, as seen by its quiet criticism of the Supreme Court’s decision to postpone rendering a comprehensive decision on reserved seats. Political commentators believe that this tendency may endanger the ruling coalition’s two-thirds majority in the National Assembly.
Speaking to media, Bukhari stated, “If there is a danger, the Prime Minister should advise dissolving parliament and holding new elections.”
